Regions
The Kentucky Appalachians region is considered completely within the Appalachians Mountain range. Named for Kentucky’s first famous settler, Daniel Boone Country is nestled just beyond the Appalachian Mountain range. The Southern Lakes region has Lake Cumberland right in the middle of it. Lake Cumberland is a massive lake with plenty of rivers attached to it.
Farmers Markets
Although farmers markets are established all throughout Kentucky the bigger ones are more known. The biggest ones you can find in the Kentucky Appalachians region are located in Inez and Owingsville. Crossing over to the Daniel Boone Country there are an abundant of different farmers markets. Most are located in the North and West of the Daniel Boone Country.
All offer fresh produce straight from the fields. The locals also sell handicraft items at the farmers market so you can leave with the perfect souvenir.
Farms & Orchards
The farms and orchards located are in the center and West in the Kentucky Appalachians region. Most of the farms in the Southern Lakes region span around Lake Cumberland.
These farms and orchards offer tourists to visit and learn about the history and culture that they offer. Some accommodate you to stay overnight or a few days. You can work with the farmers and workers side by side then retire from the day and enjoy an evening of fun activities.
National Parks
The Daniel Boone National Park ranges into three separate tourism regions: Kentucky Appalachians, Southern Lakes, and the bulk of it in Daniel Boone Country. The Daniel Boone National Park offers Horseback riding, Mountain biking, Hiking, backpackers. Then if you drive south and go along the border of Kentucky and Virginia you can visit the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Here you can visit the path that the first settlers of Kentucky took to cross the Appalachian Mountain range.
